Rajneeshpuram, 1984

Reflecting my interest in exploring queer notions of family, this image creates an imagined moment within the intentional community of Rajneeshpuram, a religious cult in Oregon during the early 1980s. The relationships of this group are familial, but queer: a family with two matriarchs and children whose biological relationships are unclear (or unimportant), subverting the expectation of family as defined by shared genetics.
